If I could do 6 stars I definitely would! I’ve gotten concrete work done before but Rhino concrete really stood out more than other contractors. They were so quick to get back to me and I had no problem contacting them, compared to a lot of other contractors. I am very pleased with their work.

Before We Pour

Pouring Concrete in Huntersville: Streets, Red Clay and Rolling Lots

Building permits for Huntersville homes come from Mecklenburg County, not the town. The apron where your drive meets the street is a separate sign-off. Almost all main yellow-line roads in town are NCDOT roads, and changing access on one takes an NCDOT driveway permit. Side streets in neighborhoods are mostly the town's, and an apron in the town's right-of-way needs an Encroachment Agreement. A private street belongs to the HOA, condo association or developer, so the sign-off is theirs. For a road like Gilead Road or McCoy Road, we look up who maintains it instead of guessing.

Cecil soil covers most of the ground around Rosedale, mapped on 2 to 15 percent slopes. A few inches under its thin topsoil is firm, sticky red clay. Down toward Torrence Creek, the rolling upland drops to flat creek bottoms, and those bottoms flood. On a lot that falls toward the creek, we plan the drainage before we plan the slab. Winter nights here freeze often, but the days rarely stay frozen, so water left on a slab freezes and thaws all winter.

Huntersville zoning puts detached garages in the rear yard on most lots. So a drive to a detached garage has to run back past the house, unless an alley reaches it. Huntersville townhomes get their vehicle access from the rear, by a private drive, alley or parking lot. Monteith Park mixes Charleston-style houses with double porches and townhomes on small lots. Detached garages are common. Vermillion is a planned neighborhood laid out with streets, squares and greens on rolling ground. On ground that rolls, we check how the lot falls before we set a single form. Where there is an HOA, it may want a say on a new drive or patio, so ask early.

FAQ

Questions About Hiring a Concrete Contractor in Huntersville

Do you also work up in Cornelius?

Yes. Cornelius is right between Huntersville and Davidson, and we take jobs there.

Do you do stamped concrete in Huntersville?

Yes. Broom finish is our standard, and stamping is an upgrade you add to the quote.

Is there a historic district in Huntersville?

No. Huntersville has no town historic district, but it does have designated county landmarks. The Hugh Torrance House and Store, out on Gilead Road, is one. On a designated landmark, NC law requires a certificate of appropriateness for exterior work, pavement included. If your home is a designated landmark, we check with the county landmarks commission before we pour.

Do the lake watershed rules affect concrete work in Huntersville?

They can. The stricter Lake Norman watershed rules reach only a half mile inland from the lake, so they matter for lakefront lots. The Mountain Island Lake watershed overlay covers land between Hambright Road, NC 115 and NC 73. The town counts concrete as impervious cover, the same as asphalt, brick and stone. If your lot may sit in either overlay, we check the town's zoning map before we pour.
