Where They Go

Concrete Walkways We Pour Around Charlotte

A walk is narrow and you use it every day, so small mistakes show. A low spot holds a puddle, and an uneven edge trips people.

We have poured walkways in Charlotte, Huntersville and Mooresville.

The Front Walk

From the driveway or the curb to your front step. It is the path guests use, so plan the width for two people side by side.

The Side-Yard Path

Down the side of the house to the gate or the back patio. Our homepage before and after shows one: a worn dirt track along a brick house, now a stamped walkway.

The Connector

A strip from the driveway to the front door, or from the patio to the back door. The Charlotte walkway in our photos runs right along the driveway.

Water and Clay

Sloped So Rain Runs Off

We give every concrete sidewalk and walkway a slight slope so rain drains off rather than pooling, where the ground allows.

Around Charlotte that matters. The ground here is often red clay, and clay drains water slowly. So the surface has to shed the water itself, not wait for the soil to soak it up.

Tell us where water runs across your yard in a heavy storm, and we set the slope with that in mind.

The soil under the path gets compacted first, and fiber goes into every pour.

Driveways and Patios

Tying a Concrete Walkway Into Your Driveway or Patio

Most walks start at something else: the driveway, a patio or the porch step. Where new concrete meets old, there is a joint between the two.

New concrete will not match the color of an older slab exactly. If the walk runs right along an old driveway, expect the two to look a little different.

If you are getting a driveway or patio quote anyway, ask us to price the concrete walkway on the same job.

What Helps Us Quote Your Walkway

Where It Starts and Ends

Driveway to door, gate to patio, or curb to porch. A few phone photos or a rough sketch is enough.

How You Use It

One person, two side by side, a stroller, or trash cans rolling out each week. Each one needs a different width.

What Is There Now

Grass, gravel or an old concrete sidewalk. Old concrete has to come out first, and that can add a day.

Rhino Concrete did an amazing job installing my new walkway. I’m very happy with the results and would definitely recommend them!

Highly professional and thoughtful team. I loved that they checked in with me and genuinely cared about my concerns, like rounding the corners, ensuring water would drain appropriately, and designing a toddler-safe step. They even went above and beyond to make sure that all the dirt and clay that was removed was smoothly distributed, which was a very pleasant surprise! Everything from the consultation through to payment was very easy. Thank you so much!!!

I had an excellent experience working with Rhino Concrete! They were very responsive, worked with my timeline, and were able to create a custom shape for the space I had available. Price was great for the job I needed. Was really thankful for the clear communication from beginning to end of service and the hard work of the entire team on the day of the project. Will come back to Rhino once I’m ready for a back patio!

FAQ

Questions About Concrete Sidewalks in Charlotte

Should my walkway be plain or stamped?

Plain broom finish is the standard, about 4 inches thick unless your quote says otherwise. The broom leaves fine ridges that give shoes some grip in the rain. Stamped is an upgrade with a pattern pressed into the top. It makes the most sense when the walk meets a stamped patio or porch.

Do I need a permit for a concrete sidewalk near the street?

It depends on where the walk runs and who controls that strip of ground. Permits and HOA approval are not included unless the quote lists them. If a permit is needed, we do not start until it is issued. Tell us up front if the new walk will meet the curb or the public sidewalk. If you want the permit in our price, ask and we can list it on the quote.

How long does a walkway take?

Most concrete walkways are far under 1,050 sq ft, and a job that size usually takes one day on site. Tearing out an old walk can add a day. Before we dig, we ask NC 811 to mark the public lines, which takes 3 working days. Private lines like sprinklers, pet fences and yard lights are not marked. Show us where yours run. Rain can push the date.

When can we walk on it?

We will tell you. Fresh concrete looks done well before it is ready for feet, so please wait for our word. Keep kids, pets and bikes off it until then.

What does a concrete walkway cost in Charlotte?

It depends on the length, the width, the finish and whether old concrete comes out first. Projects start at $3,500. If a driveway or patio is also on your list, ask us to quote them together.

Can you replace just the bad part of my walkway?

Yes, if only a few sections are cracked or sunk. We cut those out and pour new concrete in their place. We do not fill cracks or level slabs. Our concrete repair page explains how it works.

Will my new walkway crack?

All concrete cracks. The lines across a finished concrete sidewalk are control joints, and they tell the concrete where to crack.
