How We Build It
How We Pour a Concrete Driveway in Charlotte
Lines Marked First
We send an NC 811 request before anyone digs. Marking the public lines takes 3 working days. Private lines are not marked, so show us your sprinkler pipes, pet fence wire and yard lights.
Ground Compacted
We compact the dirt under the driveway before the pour. Soft fill settles over time, and a slab on top of it can sink with it.
Fiber in the Mix
Every driveway we pour has fiber mixed into the concrete. It is part of the standard job, so you do not have to ask for it.
About 4 Inches Thick
A driveway slab is about 4 inches thick. If your quote lists a different thickness, the quote is what we pour.
Broom Finish
The standard surface is a broom finish. The light texture gives tires and shoes some grip. Stamped concrete is an upgrade.
Control Joints
Every slab cracks at some point. Control joints are the lines across the driveway that tell the concrete where to crack.
Timeline
How Long a Concrete Driveway Takes
A driveway up to about 1,050 sq ft usually takes one day on site. Up to 3,000 sq ft usually takes two: a prep day, then the pour. If the old driveway has to come out first, that can add a day.
Before day one, NC 811 needs 3 working days to mark the lines. If your job needs a permit, we do not start until the permit is issued.
Measure the length and width before you ask for a quote. Those two numbers tell us which of these timelines fits your driveway.
Charlotte Ground
Red Clay and Rain in Charlotte
Charlotte sits on red Piedmont clay.
Clay drains water slowly. Rain that cannot soak in fast runs across the surface until it finds a way off.
That is why slope matters on a concrete driveway here. Where the lot allows, we pitch the concrete so water runs off it instead of sitting on it.
If water already pools on your old driveway, tell us when you ask for a quote.
Repair or Replace
Fix One Section or Pour a New Driveway
A cracked or sunken concrete driveway does not always need to come out whole. If the damage is in one area, we cut that area out and pour a new piece in its place.
We do not fill cracks, level sunken slabs or resurface old concrete. A new piece will not match the color of the old slab exactly.
If most of the driveway is broken up, a full replacement is often the better call. Axel handles quotes and the phone, and he can talk it through with you.
Our Driveway Work
Where We Pour Driveways
Driveways and patios are most of what we pour. Charlotte is where we do the most jobs, but driveways take us all over the area.
We have poured driveways from Mount Holly to Mint Hill, and as far north as Statesville.
In Huntersville and Concord, driveways are most of the work we do.

Rhino concrete is amazing. It’s my first time ever wanting to do a project this big so I was nervous at first, but Axel was really professional over the phone and helped flesh out what I really wanted and Hassan and his team were respectful and informed me every step of the way of the project. I’m really happy about this driveway. Thanks again rhino concrete!

FAQ
Driveway Questions We Get
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Charlotte?
It depends on the job. The size, the finish and whether an old driveway has to come out first all change the price. Projects start at $3,500, and the estimate is free.
Can you widen or extend my driveway?
Yes. One of our Charlotte driveway jobs was an extension. New concrete beside old concrete will not match its color exactly. The $3,500 minimum applies to small extensions too.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a new concrete driveway?
That depends on where you live and what we are building. Permits and HOA approval are not in the price unless your quote lists them. If a permit is needed, we wait until it is issued to start.
